Throughout the year, the Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA hosts many active programs designed specifically for youth. Now through the middle of December, the focus is on basketball, dance, and kickboxing. These classes are recently underway, but individuals may still register if spaces are available. For information about registration, dates, and pricing, please call the Y at (856)691-0030 or check www.ccaymca.org.
YMCA Youth Indoor Co-Ed Basketball is for grades pre-K to kindergarten, first to third grades, and fourth to sixth grades groups. Practices are held on Tuesday or Thursday; games will be scheduled on Saturdays beginning on November 18. The emphasis will be on building skills that are helpful in basketball and other sports.
YMCA Youth Dance is a program that introduces the basics of ballet. Age groups are three to five and six to ten. They meet on Wednesday evenings at 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. respectively. The class provides a chance to develop a love of dance. Parents are requested to wait at the seating outside the room.
YMCA Youth Kickboxing offers fun, discipline, and fundamentals for kids aged seven to twelve. This class meets Saturday mornings from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. During the class, participants must wear gloves (available for purchase at the Member Service desk) and sneakers. Parents must stay in the room during class.
Youth and Teen Times are also built into the schedule of the Family Fitness Center and the Free Weight Room. These are designated times for kids aged eleven to fifteen to have this expanded access. Hours are Monday to Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. plus weekend hours (Saturday 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Sunday 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.). This is beyond their general use of the Family Health Center and Adventure and the Milam Multi-Purpose Center.
